They Started Talking —USA and Russia— History Then and Now
Finally, the first steps have been taken. Biden and Putin have signalled their willingness for talks and negotiations. Let’s remember again the historical examples of such talks and negotiations:
A very prominent one are those that ended the 30-year’s-war in Europe: The disaster was almost unbelievably huge, the population in Europe shrunk to around a third of its former number, huge parts of its regions in ruins, waste land everywhere. Starvation, millions of people dead, and cruelties of war that made the history books sizzle with scariness for centuries, and do to this day.
The negotiations to end this dreadful war took 5 years, but finally the war was ended.
Let’s also remember that such negotiations are not easy, at all. All sides have their claims, some of them new, some of them already turning ‘sepia’ with age; their wounded pride, their image in front of the world to be kept, even if with some effort.
This needs patience — and perseverance.
All of us not being part of political or diplomatic corps and corporations, administrative bodies, in other words, the ‘people of the world’, let’s remind them what it is we want and need:
Peace, equality, equilibrium.
